SOPHIE SUMMER MUSE

Ophelia

Welcome to our SOPHIE Summer muse series where we connect with creative women who inspire us.

Next in our series is artist, photographer, creative & mumma, Ophelia Jones.

Read our conversation with Ophelia below. x

Hi Ophelia, welcome! We'd love to hear a bit about you.
Hello! My name is Ophelia. I live with my husband Ryder and our three year old son in our little home with an overgrown garden. I love taking photographs.

Your effortless, unique style is a true inspiration. Do you have any tips for getting dressed?
Wow, thank you! I love layering and wearing oversized pieces. Natural fibres are the only way for me. I love hiding under a hat and gold jewellery.

Nature constantly sparks our creativity. What are some things that keep you inspired?
Flowers are a constant source of inspiration for me and they show up in my work a lot. I have an ongoing work called Men Carrying Flowers which I will be releasing a second volume of next year.

At SOPHIE, we’re an all-women team, with many of us balancing work and family life. As a busy mum, how do you keep your creativity flowing?

Oh great question, I am only just learning that. For me, I have a little camera I call our 'family cam' . I always have it in my bag. Creativity (like energy levels) comes in waves for me especially now that I am a mother so I like to have that little camera at the ready. Capturing things outside of work- everyday moments of beauty and the people I love.

With summer around the corner, do you have any must-have beach or summer essentials?
A good hat, vegetables in the ground and no plans. Beach beach beach!

SOPHIE Summer Muse

Christina

Welcome to our SOPHIE Summer muse series where we connect with creative women who inspire us.

First in our series is creative, writer, content creator & mumma to one gorgeous boy, Christina Macpherson.

Read our conversation with Christina below. x

Hi Christina, welcome! We’d love to know a bit about you—and where in the world are you right now?
Kia Ora! I'm a creative who works on producing content, copy-writing, and campaigns for brands and businesses. I've just returned home to Byron Bay (Bangalow), Australia after a 3 month stint, travelling overseas with my beautiful family.

We adore your candid approach to family life and travel. Could you share some of the memorable highs and lows?
We are incredibly privileged to be able to live how we live and do what we do so I'm hesitant to share any lows but for sure there's a couple. Working together whilst parenting and on the road can definitely be tricky and we need to choose our moments to work so that our son doesn't suffer. New neighbourhoods, new playgrounds and different languages can be a little confusing to a 2.5 year old who's just trying to figure it out. But the highs are so much higher: seeing our son interact and learn from different people from different cultures is incredible. People say he won't remember these trips (and he probably won't), but I'm sure these adventures bring something positive to him in ways we can't even understand.

You've recently travelled through Europe and Bali! Any highlights from the journey or must-add spots for our European summer wishlist?
Cadaques is a town over the mountains along the Costa Brava in Spain. I don't want to tell you anything about it, just go.

Effortless, everyday wear is at the heart of SOPHIE. Do you have any tips for easy, stylish vacation dressing?
I think comfort equals confidence and is a huge part of feeling and looking effortless. If you love the piece you're wearing, and it feels good to move in; you're already there.

Lastly, what are your three travel essentials?
Pieces that can be layered and don't crinkle, comfy shoes, and a very good book.

Giving back is always a big focus for us, especially over Christmas.

This year, we’re donating for 12 days to 12 different local charities holding a special place in our hearts.

To amplify the voices of these charities, we’ve spoken to someone from each charity to ask what they need most in the final countdown to Christmas. We’ve included how you can donate & would love you to think about giving back also.

Supporting mental health through the power of words

Supporting mental health through the power of words

Hello,

Mental Health Awareness Week is here, I feel happy that mental health is openly talked about now, we’ve come a long way. Throughout the month of September, we’re donating a portion of proceeds from our Choose Your Letter jewellery to Voices Of Hope, in support of a charity & cause that is dear to our hearts.

Voices of HopeVoices of Hope is a mental health charity co-founded by Genevieve Mora & Jazz Thornton & serves as a platform for lived experience storytelling, sharing the narratives of individuals who have confronted mental health challenges.

Words have such a big impact on our mental health. When carefully chosen & spoken as a mantra, they can bolster our mental resilience & provide solace during challenging times. They can cultivate self compassion & create a positive internal dialogue that nurtures our wellbeing.

Both Gen (Voices of Hope) & I have found words to be pivotal in our own mental health journeys.

The word journey holds a special meaning, as it reminds me of the phrase ‘a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’.

- Genevieve Mora

When Gen was first hospitalised for her eating disorder, her mum stuck those words directly opposite her bed as a daily reminder that she needed to motivate herself to start healing.

I draw on lots of mantras, but my personal favourite is ‘this too shall pass’. In really bad times, you just have to believe this & know that the awful feelings will go away. This mantra reminds me to remain hopeful. Accept the feelings & you begin to feel at peace with them.

We send our wishes to anyone struggling with their mental health right now & those supporting them. To support Voices of Hope & choose your own word to make your own jewellery, you can shop our Choose Your Letters collection here.

Kia kaha,
Belinda x

Extra special picks for Mother's Day

Extra special picks for Mother's Day

As a team of women, daughters & mothers alike, we're all looking forward to Mother's Day.

If you have yet to sort a little gift for Mum, we've put together some recommendations on what we're gifting Mum & why. After all, Mums deserve the best. x

Belinda: My pick is a gold Bestie Bracelet for Mum with a sweetheart attached. She has the earrings & wears a LOT of bangles on her wrist, but no bestie...yet!

Lauren: I gift a Little Letter Necklace to this to all my first time mum friends. A perfect little keepsake to keep their new bubs close to their heart.

Sarah: Mum already thrashes her Always Shirt & gets lots of compliments so think the In Love Shirt will be a great option for her – tossing up between Khaki Linen or White Cotton!

Mia: Mum has always been a babe - beautiful inside & out & ever growing in grace with each year that goes by. She would rock our Pretty in Pearls necklace.

Rachel: If my children happen to be reading this, my pick for Mother’s Day is the Everyday Eyewear Chain. I love how it elevates both specs & sunglasses with a chic nod to the 80s - making them fun to wear & super practical. Imagine being able to find your glasses effortlessly & channeling Molly Ringwald all the while!

Tabhitha: My mum loves scarves so I know she’ll love the Silk Scarf – it’s so soft & luxurious that it makes a beautiful gift to keep her neck warm. Plus, she can tie it to her handbag as an accessory when she’s not wearing it.

Fern: The Great Big Bag will always be the best present I gave Mum. She is a draftswomen & has to constantly take her laptop & hard copies of all the projects she is working on with her. She can fit so much & it’s so comfortable to carry around.
